Are you a inspired children’s book writer.
Are you a children’s author want-a-be? Parent of a writer?
One of my favorite writers is R.L. Stine. If you have children you probably recognize the name.
He is famous for his Goosebumps, Fear Street and Goosebumps Horrorland, The nightmare room, Mostly ghostly, and rotten school series among other works. This children’s author started when he was 9 years old. He found a old typewriter in the attic and dragged it down to his room. He would spend hours typing in his room by one finger, something he still does to this day. He considered himself a weird kid.
He started out writing little funny joke magazines. He labeled them: “Little tales to drive you insane”, Tales to drive you batty.” He was a shy boy and he used these magazines to get attention from the other students. He wrote other books like: “How to be funny”, “How to get laughs at the dinner table.” His first published work was “How to be funny” published in 1978. Under the pen name: Jovial Bob Stine. So this writer started out in humor writing.
He started in Horror when an editor asked him to write a Horror book. The book was titled “Blind date”. It was a instant best seller. A Horror writer was formed called R.L. Stine.
He started writing a series called fear street. The Goosebumps series was started (1992) and he did 87 of them. That is when the magic happened. He was turning out one a month. He had no advertising or promotions. It was just kids telling kids. It was published in 28 languages. He was selling 4 million a month. He won the Guinness book of world record for bestselling children’s book series of all time. Which was ironic because he said he wrote for 25 years and nobody noticed until this series.
With all of the imagination this kid had, no teacher recognized it. They would ask him to leave his material at home. They would also confiscate his materials. How is that for discouragement. Even his mother told him to go outside and play. She obviously wanted him to socialize with others.
He said that his inspiration were old comic books namely “tales from the crypt,” and “vault of horror.” He called those comic books “very scary and funny”.
It is ironic that he got into horror books. In his adult life His life’s ambition was to write a magazine called “bananas” magazine. He wrote that for ten years. He compared that to Mad Magazine, but all in color.
This author’s dedication was amazing. He was publishing one “fear street” book and one “Goosebumps” book a month. A Goosebumps book is 120 pages. He says he starts with a outline ten to fifteen pages long. His outline goes chapter by chapter. He said all the hard work is done and the creative writing process is the fun part. He starts at 9a.m. and writes 10-15 pages until he is “brain dead.” So He was writing a Goosebumps book in twelve days and two days to revise the work. Pretty impressive.
He just wanted to encourage kids to read. Which is what most parents thank him for.
Are you or perhaps your child the next R.L. Stine? Even he says he don’t know why he was so into that typewriter at 9 years old or Why he found writing so interesting. I think if you are really into something go for it.
What can you do to inspire your child if you see him/her with a writers interest?
1. lots of tablets and pencils.
2. show them how to use Microsoft office or equivalent program.
3. Story wizard. A program for ages 9-16.
• Has a special wizard that helps your child develop a whole cast of characters.
• Database over 1 billion name combinations to help children identify character names.
• Features “smart tools” prompt them to decide the characters in a depth that brings the imagination to play.
• Can also attach photos and clip art to help with imagery and imagination.

For those big kids (us) there is a package of e-books for us that helps us refracture a children’s story. There are so many good ideas. This gentlemen has given a new twist and a unique standing point for a new author. The two e-books are called:
- 22 ways to re-think a story
- 44 ways to fracture a story tale
They come together with a bonus. I especially like the fractured story tale. which and example would be to write a story about the three little pigs but through the eyes of the big bad wolf.
Ella enchanted is also what the author is talking about. If you watched ella enchanted, you would know it wasnt the young lady in distress as cinderella was.
check out this offer. If you dont buy it is still a nice page for ideas. Click Here!
